Please read before creating a subdomain

Note: Some subdomain titles are reserved: email, www, ftp, cpanel, whm, internet email, webdisk. You can use any name except these.

How do I create a subdomain?

  • Log into cPanel and basically simply choose the "Subdomains" symbol.
  • In the "Subdomain" area, please choose the name of the subdomain which you wish to use, for example, you might choose "blog". If you choose weblog, then your subdomain will look like "blog.example.com".
  • Next, choose the preferred domain you wish to create this subdomain from the drop down selection to the right of the "Subdomain" area. You may create a subdomain for any add-on or subdomain that already prevails in your cPanel.

For example, if you select "blog" as your new subdomain, then the "Document Root" area will fill with "/public_html/blog". This implies that the new subdomain will fill it's material from the directory known as "blog" from within the "public_html" listing.

Once all three areas are set the way you like, just basically simply choose the "Create" key to finish the development of your new subdomain.

Note: The short-term URL for an add-on or subdomain is
http://ipaddress/~username/subfolder/ or http://servername/~username/subfolder/
where the login name is your cPanel customer name for your main domain.
Examples

http://reprise123.reprisehosting.com/~username/addon.com/
http://reprise123.reprisehosting.com/~username/subdomain/

If you own several websites and wish to have a different weblog set up for each domain, then you will have to modify the "Document Root" of each sector that you set up. This is very essential because if you create weblog.reprisehosting.com and weblog.seohosting.com on the same cPanel, but keep the "Document Root" as the cPanel recommended place, then both of your website subdomains will fill from the same listing of "/public_html/blog" and you will not have individual material for each subdomain.

To prevent suffering from this problem, when you create your new subdomain, make sure you set the "Document Root" to something other than "/public_html/blog", instead, set it to something like "/public_html/blog1".
